Equipment Safety Training

We deliver a variety of Equipment Safety courses, including courses which cover the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations – 1998 (P.U.W.E.R).

P.U.W.E. Regulations (Abrasive Wheels): Half Day Course

Course Objectives

To advise on the precautions which should be taken for the prevention of accidents in the use of abrasive wheels. This course will enable companies to meet their statutory requirements.

Intended For

Staff designated as being responsible for the mounting of abrasive wheels and the maintenance and care of grinding equipment.

Course Content

  • Detailed examination of and discussion of the Regulations
  • Abrasive Wheels characteristics
  • The British Standard System of Wheel Marking
  • Inspection, mounting and testing of abrasive wheels
  • Wheel turning and dressing
  • Wheel balancing
  • Storing, handling and transportation of abrasive wheels
  • Spindle speeds and speed control
  • Wheel guarding, adjustment of rests
  • Precautions to be taken by the operator

Note: A practical certificate of competence can be issued after an additional half day practical demonstration followed by an assessment of competence. This part of the course will be conducted within the company’s premises.

P.U.W.E. Regulations (Power Presses): 1 Day Course

The course is designed to cover the statutory information requirements laid down by the 1998 Approved Code of Practice and Guidance. Course participants should also develop a more positive and systematic approach to safe working methods.

Intended For

Supervisors, tool setters and other persons who are involved in preparing power presses for use.

Course Content

  • Inspection records and systems
  • The nature and function of clutch mechanisms, flywheels, brakes and ancillary equipment
  • Types and functions of safety devices
  • Guarding of power presses
  • Tool design and its influence on safety
  • The work of a tool setter
  • Electrical and electronic devices on power presses
  • Accident causation and prevention

Portable Appliance Testing (PAT): Half Day Course

Course Objectives

To train person in the use of a PAT tester to enable them to carry out the necessary tests on all electrical equipment.

Intended For

Persons nominated to carry out the regular PAT testing within the workplace

No technical knowledge or background is required.

Course Content

  • General introduction to electrical safety including the Electricity At Work Regulations 1989
  • The reasons for PAT testing with regards to the necessity for regular maintenance and repair
  • Practical sessions with the use of PAT testing equipment
